How did I get saved?
I grew up going to the Wellington Revival Centres Church with my family, so I learned from a young age that the key to being ‘saved’ was receiving the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues and getting baptised by full immersion. At the age of 11 I was praying with a few people to receive the Holy Spirit and I remember someone saying to me “think about Jesus dying on the cross, and what that means to you.” I knew about Jesus dying on the cross, and had heard about it every Sunday from a young age, but had never really considered how that affected me in any way. While my little brain started trying to piece that together I felt my tongue change and realised I was speaking in tongues. That was 18 years ago but I can still clearly remember the amazing change I felt and the knowledge that God knew me.
Why did it ‘stick’?
I received the Holy Spirit 18 years ago but I can still clearly remember the amazing change I felt and the knowledge that God knew me. I can always come back to that moment.
Favourite healing testimony?
There are so many that I’ve heard over the years but one that springs to mind is that of a girl in Papua New Guinea who was paralyzed and couldn’t walk. After receiving prayer from spirit filled members of the Revival Centres Church, she was instantly healed and started to learn to walk.
Favourite thing about Revival Centres Church vibe?
I like the simplicity. There’s a very real common bond through God’s Holy Spirit that binds us, we’re not just here for the music or the post meeting lunch. There’s support for one another to simply get on on do God’s work, and not get bogged down or distracted with the superficial things.
Favourite Revival Centres Church event to date?
Brass Monkey Camp. We head up to Otaki Forks in the middle of winter for a weekend and I love it. Tents, sub-zero nights, icy cold mornings, brushing your teeth in the river, chopping wood, throwing stones, exploring, bonfire and smores at night, a morning meeting by the river…Good times!
